ONE win does not a season make is the message Tiwi Bombers coach Brenton Toy has hammered into his players this week.
But Toy can sense a degree of belief among his playing list that was not there a week ago when they were preparing for a tough assignment against St Mary’s at Bathurst Island.
It’s history now that the Bombers snapped a five-game losing streak with their 21-point win over the young Saints, the first time they have beaten the Green Machine on the island.
But Toy does not want to stop there, despite the lift in confidence a drought breaking win brings to a club.
“We gained a little bit of confidence from the Saints game, it was probably more belief than anything,’’ he told the NT News.
The next task for Toy is getting his side up against the rampaging Buffaloes, who have won four games from six with a minimum of fuss.
“We know Buffs are a good side and they’re going to be difficult to beat, but it’s not impossible for us,’’ was Toy’s response.
“We’ve got some good players coming in this week, but on the other side there are some good players going out.
“Our big ruckman Liam Wale-Buxton is unavailable, but we get Jack Monigatti back, so it’s a bit of a one-for-one with selection.’’
Goalsneak Travis Tambling is out of the Tiwi side, but Ross Tungatalum convinced selectors he is fit to play after missing the last two weeks with a hamstring strain.
Adam Tipungwuti is also expected to play after being named on an extended interchange, adding run and experience across half back, the wing and up forward.
The Buffaloes have a sameness about them after a hard fought win over Waratah last week.
Former North Melbourne defender Michael Firrito is a non-starter, but former Perth (WAFL) utility Aaron Punch has been named in the side.
