Capcom must be in a dire financial situation right now. They were once the one who holds the superpower when it comes to creating the best video games ever, yet time has not been kind to them. They have released open invitations to various potential investors to rescue the company from falling into the pits that they are currently facing. The company has been struggling to get back on their game but they have failed to do that in their last Resident Evil franchise, in which they released a game, far away from where it rooted from and leaned towards a gameplay that makes you think of Call of Duty. It was for the purpose of making it the best-selling game, but such attempt only made it disappointing.
Resident Evil 7 is the next installment of the game and even if it has not been presented at the last E3 event, it has not stopped the rumors surrounding how the game will turn out once it will be released.
If you have noticed how the virus mania from the first Resident Evil game until the sixth, it has become very complicated and difficult to understand. The zombies, which is the very core element of the game, were supposed to bring tension to the player, especially when it tries to rip your character out until it bleeds to death. In the RE4, there was the Plagas and Gandos, then followed by Uroborsos in the RE5, then the variation C-virus, which infested the zombies in the sixth installment. The variations of these enemies show that the creators have deviated from their roots, especially when it comes to action-packed gameplay. This a common trait done by some big titles when they try to appeal to a wider audience, when in fact they have only turned it into a disappointing game.
It was already acceptable when the sixth installation came but if you recall back how varied the monsters were in RE4 that has proven effective to its target audience, the overall feel of these zombies did not feel frightening at all. They tried returning to how the game was in the RE6 but issues were raised after this. Instead, the game was trying to be ambitious that it turned to be overly ambitious that is has shown too many places and the number of varying types of monsters pushed into the game that it has ruined the player’s entire experience of the game.
The creators of the Resident Evil game have promised that they will truly go back to their roots in their next installment and will simplify the virus this time.
