Taylor Swift drank her ‘weight in white wine’ during lockdown

Taylor Swift admits she hit the bottle during lockdowns.

The Welcome to New York singer opened up about both her songwriting process and her lockdown drinking habits during a reflective moment at Saturday's concert in Melbourne, Australia.

Describing how she came to write her Grammy-winning 2020 album Folklore, Taylor , 34,painted a graphic picture of her own self-concept at the time.

"So I was imagining that, instead of being a lonely millennial woman covered in cat hair drinking my weight in white wine, I was a ghostly Victorian lady wandering through the woods with a candle in a candlestick holder," Taylor told the 96,000-strong audience at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, as she strummed an acoustic guitar.

"And I wrote only on parchment with a feathered quill. And that was in my mind, what I thought I looked like while writing Folklore."

But it was her sign-off before launching into a rendition of Betty that had the crowd in stitches.

"That was not what I looked like, when writing Folklore – but it was what I thought I looked like!

"So that's all that matters, you know: it's the delusion."

Taylor's next album, The Tortured Poets Department, is slated for release on April 19.
