Berlin-based studio ByteRockers' Games have released their rhythmic hack n' Slack roguelike; Beat Slayer. The game is now out for Steam, and focuses on the ventures of Mia, a stylish warrior looking to bring down a musical tyrant, who has taken over Berlin with his army of robots and hypnotic brain-washing beats.
Beat Slayer pushes a focus on music, and much like Hi-Fi Rush, and BPM, music plays a critical role in the actions you perform, and how powerful you become by keeping to the beat. What makes Beat Slayer quite good is how it's very approachable when it comes to the rhythmic gameplay and mechanics, along with having great music, and good action gameplay.
The fun hack'n'slay captivates with its pulsating beats, action-packed sequences and quirky humor. The musical odyssey, whose soundtrack was created in collaboration with the German Babelsberg Film Orchestra, among others, takes players to a fictional, dystopian Berlin in the 1990s, where there is only one rule: Stay on beat! ByteRockers' Games GmbH & Co. KG was founded in Berlin in 2008 and has been developing and publishing video games for PC, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and smartphones for 15 years. They focus on unconventional game ideas with a high production value and achieved international success in 2021 with their indie roguelike "Insurmountable".
