Phoebe Bridgers slammed ex-Grammys CEO Neil Portnow for telling women to "step up".

The singer-songwriter appeared in the Grammys press room on Sunday alongside her Boygenius bandmates Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus.

While speaking to reporters, Bridgers called out the former head of the Recording Academy, who was sued for rape in 2023.

"I have something to say about women," Bridgers, 29, replied when asked about the future of women in rock. "The ex-president of the Recording Academy, Neil Portnow, said that if women want to be nominated and win Grammys that they should step up."

She added, "He's also being accused of sexual violence. And to him I'd like to say I know you're not dead yet, but when you are, rot in p**s."

In 2018, Portnow sparked outrage when he stated, "women who have the creativity in their hearts and souls... (need) to step up," when he was questioned about the lack of female nominees in the awards show.

The former CEO, who stepped down as head of the institution in 2019, was sued by a Recording Academy member who claimed he drugged and raped her at a New York hotel in 2018. The executive has denied the claims, calling them "ludicrous, and untrue".

Bridgers' comments came after Boygenius collected three awards at the Grammys, including Best Alternative Music Album for The Record and Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance for Not Strong Enough.

The supergroup also confirmed that they have no plans to return from their recently announced hiatus.
