Patti Smith has insisted she is "fine" after collapsing on stage.
The 78-year-old rock legend left fans worried when she fainted on stage during a concert in São Paulo, Brazil, on Wednesday night.
Smith was performing with experimental music group Soundwalk Collective at the Teatro Cultura Artística when the incident happened.
The musician has now taken to Instagram to reassure her fans that she is doing fine.
"This is letting everyone know that I am fine," the singer-songwriter wrote alongside a smiling photo of herself. "A grossly exaggerated account is being spread by the press and social media."
Smith continued, "I had some post migraine dizziness. Had a small incident, left the stage, and returned 10 minutes later and talked to the people, told them I was fine and sang them Wing and Because the night."
The Gloria hitmaker went on to insist she had been examined by an "excellent" doctor and was "absolutely fine".
"Please do not accept any other story. With all the strife in the world, this explainable incident does not merit so much attention," she continued. "Thank you everyone for your concern. Trust me I am fine."
According to Brazilian outlet Metrópoles, members of the audience said Smith fell backwards and hit her head on the floor before being escorted off stage. She soon returned to the stage and performed one of her greatest hits, Because The Night, seated in a wheelchair.
A statement released shortly after the performance explained that the musician had recently suffered from an "intense migraine" and "had some dizziness on stage".
The statement added, "She is now being cared for by the best doctors in the most loving way and will be back on stage tomorrow night."
