Pakistan exited the first ICC event they hosted in 29 years without registering a single win after their final Champions Trophy 2025 Group A game against Bangladesh was abandoned due to incessant rain in Rawalpindi. The defending champions finished bottom of their group, even below Bangladesh on Net Run Rate, ending a forgettable tournament in which they suffered heavy defeats to both New Zealand and India.

Batting was a particular pain point for the team in those two defeats. They managed only 22 runs in the PowerPlay while chasing 320 against New Zealand, ultimately losing by 60 runs. Against India, they won an important toss but oscillated between trying too hard and not trying hard enough, finishing with a subpar total of 241, which was chased down rather comfortably.

There was an opportunity to begin a redemption arc in the dead rubber clash against Bangladesh, but even that hope was extinguished early on a gloomy, rain-filled afternoon in Rawalpindi. With no signs of the rain relenting, the match officials called the game off at 15:30 local time. It was the second rain-abandoned game at the venue, after South Africa's clash against Australia met a similar fate.
