Neil Young backs out of Glastonbury 2025

Neil Young won't be performing at Glastonbury 2025 because he believes the music festival is now under "corporate control".

The Down by the River singer had been rumoured to be one of the performers for the event, which is set to be held at Worthy Farm in Somerset, England from 27-29 June 2025.

Rod Stewart has been confirmed to be taking the "legend" slot on the Sunday.

However, Neil posted a brief letter on his website on Thursday in which he announced that he would not be attending the festival.

"The Chrome Hearts (band) and I were looking forward to playing Glastonbury, one of my all time favorite outdoor gigs," he began. "We were told that BBC was now a partner in Glastonbury and wanted us to do a lot of things in a way we were not interested in. It seems Glastonbury is now under corporate control and is not the way I remember it being."

Neil didn't specify exactly what Glastonbury and BBC bosses had requested from him.

"We will not be playing Glastonbury on this tour because it is a corporate turn-off, and not for me like it used to be. Hope to see you at one of the other venues on the tour," the 79-year-old added.

Representatives for the festival and broadcaster, the long-time TV partner of the event, have not yet commented on the claims.

The legendary singer-songwriter last performed at Glastonbury in 2009.

Other acts rumoured to be in the 2025 line-up include Ed Sheeran, Olivia Rodrigo, Eminem, and Rihanna.

Headliners are expected to be announced in March.
