Former World No. 1 and new mom, Naomi Osaka, is back on the practice court as she prepares for her highly anticipated return to tennis at the Brisbane International. The tournament is scheduled to kick off this Sunday at Pat Rafter Arena, marking Osaka’s comeback to the WTA circuit.
Grand Slam Champion’s Return
Osaka, a two-time Australian and U.S. Open champion, had to withdraw from the Australian Open in Melbourne last year after announcing her pregnancy. Now, she is set to make her comeback at the Brisbane International following the birth of her daughter, Shai, with American rapper boyfriend Cordae in July.
The U.S.-based Japanese player has seen limited action since the 2021 U.S. Open in New York. Her only match since then was at the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo in September 2021, where she was leading against Daria Gavrilova before the Australian’s unfortunate knee injury forced her to retire.
Osaka is not the only tennis star making a return from injury at Brisbane. Rafael Nadal is set to join the 32-man ATP field, which boasts a strong lineup. Notably, Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini and 2020 U.S. Open champion Dominic Thiem face the challenge of qualifying for the event. Thiem reached the Australian Open final in 2020, while Berrettini was a semifinalist two years later.

Competitive Men’s Draw
Holger Rune, ranked No. 8, holds the highest rank among the male players in the tournament. The entry of three-time Grand Slam singles champion Andy Murray adds to the competitive field. American Ben Shelton is also among the participants.
The women’s draw features an impressive lineup, including reigning Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina, Jelena Ostapenko, Victoria Azarenka, Sofia Kenin, and Sloane Stephens. The 54-player draw promises intense competition among some of the top names in women’s tennis.
