Matthew Mott, the former England's Men's and Australia Women's head coach, has joined the Sydney Sixers as an assistant coach. He has put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the club. He will link up with head coach Greg Shipperd, and has replaced Cameron White who was named head coach of Melbourne Renegades earlier in June.
Mott has had an illustrious coaching career so far. As head coach of the Australian women's team, he oversaw the side lift the ODI World Cup in 2022 and the T20 World Cup in 2018 and 2020. He was also at the helm when England men were crowned the T20 World Cup champions in 2022.
Mott is back in Sydney, the place where he began his coaching career when he was named head coach of New South Wales Blues in 2007.
"I'm delighted to join back up with the Sydney Sixers," Mott said. "Having started my coaching journey in Sydney many years ago, it's a place that evokes both great memories and a comforting sense of familiarity, which I'm looking forward to. The idea of being an assistant to Greg Shipperd, who I have a tremendous amount of respect for, really appealed to me."
Rachael Haynes, General Manager of the Sydney Sixers, said that they didn't need to think twice about bringing in a coach of Mott's calibre.
"We couldn't be more pleased to have 'Motty' committed for the next three years with the club. When the opportunity arises to bring a coach of Motty's calibre into your ranks, it's a no-brainer. We know what a fantastic resource he will be for our playing group."
Sydney Sixers will begin their BBL campaign against the Melbourne Renegades on December 16.
