Is Sony’s “Killzone Fart” pack taking DLC too far?

A few days ago, Sony and developer Guerrilla Games released a new Killzone Shadow Fall DLC called “Fun & Games Spotlight Pack”. What do you get in this $2 downloadable content pack? The ability to taunt your enemies with farts, planks, and other supposedly funny things involving toilet humor.

We originally thought this must be some kind of very-late April Fool’s joke, but no, Sony is actually charging $2 for the ability to fart and taunt your enemies. Even if this was released for free, it would have been hard to take it seriously. Paying for it just seems ridiculous.

Back in the early days of downloadable content, we used to complain about the $5 horse armor that was offered in Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. At that point, it seemed like joke. Now, we’re paying $2 for the ability to fart on enemies in multiplayer.

After publishers exhausted the possibilities of regular downloadable content, such as maps, expansions, game mode, even weapon unlocks, they’re now looking for new ways to squeeze an extra few bucks out of players.

Killzone Shadow Fall is already offering a whole slew of minor DLC packs, suck as player skins, voice over packs (so you can sound like a female soldier in Battle Chatter in multiplayer), a “Dance Move” spotlight pack where your soldier can perform dances in multiplayer, and even Playercard icon packs that retail for $1.

In all, Sony is offering over 35 different DLC packs for Killzone Shadow Fall. No doubt we’ll see more and crazier content in the future. You can find the full list of Killzone Shadow Fall downloadable content here.

How far can Sony push this? What do you sell to gamers after farts? We’re sure they’ll come up with more ways to get a few extra bucks out of us.

Killzone Shadow Fall has an avid multiplayer community on the PlayStation 4, and we’re sure that some of the more hardcore players will pony up a couple of bucks for the privilege to tea bag and fart on fallen enemies on the battlefield.
