If you live in Europe and haven't yet bought your Xbox One, it looks like now is the right time to get one. Online retailer, Amazon, has bitten a fairly large mouthful out of the price of the Xbox One plus Kinect bundle making the system much, much more affordable.
Xbox One Down
The Xbox One received a pretty sizable price cut just two months ago in June which dropped it's launch price of €499 to €399. That price cut, however, came at the expense of the Kinect motion detecting peripheral, which was removed from the package. Now Amazon is selling the Kinect inclusive bundle for that same €399 price. In Italy anyway.
That wouldn't be newsworthy by itself, but Amazon has seen fit to drop the price of the Xbox One with Kinect in France and Germany as well. At the time of writing, the Xbox One with the Kinect included was selling for €399,99 in Italy, €450,26 in France and €439,00 in Germany on Amazon's regional sites for those countries.
Raising Suspicion
It's still possible that these price deductions are simply once-off discounts, which isn't an unusual thing for any retailer to do, but two things makes this turn of events suspicious.
Firstly, the price cuts are coming about quite close to the start of Europe's video game expo, gamescom; and secondly, just a week ago the Xbox One also had a price cut appear on Microsoft's Spanish website. That cut was for the Kinect-free bundle and knocked the €399.99 price down to €349.99. Microsoft later claimed that price cut was done "in error".
For four different European countries to all get price cuts so close to each other and on the eve of gamescom seems too calculated to be an accident. What better time would there be for Microsoft to announce a price cut than at gamescom? Especially if it's a deduction that would see the Xbox One undercut the PlayStation 4. For the Kinect-free version, anyway.
Getting confirmation as to the permanence of this reduction will come sooner rather than later, but if you're Italian, there's no better time to grab an Xbox One than right now.
