The Harry Potter TV series makes its debut on the Max streaming service in 2026, Warner Bros. Discovery has announced.
Speaking during a financial call, CEO David Zaslav expressed his excitement at the Harry Potter series, which he said is set to make its debut in 2026.
Zaslav pointed out the last Harry Potter film was made more than a dozen years ago, and committed to the franchise heading into the future.
“We’ve not been shy about our excitement around Harry Potter," Zaslav said. "The last film was made more than a dozen years ago. I was in London a few weeks ago with Casey and Channing and we spent some real time with JK and her team. Both sides just thrilled to be reigniting this franchise. Our conversations were great, and we couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead.
"We can’t wait to share a decade of new stories with fans around the world on Max. We’re aiming for a debut in 2026.”
Last year, Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe said he didn't think he'd return for the upcoming show. During an interview with Deadline, the former Hogwarts pupil and winner of the Triwizard Tournament explained whether or not he would make a cameo appearance.
“I don't think so, no,” he said. “Certainly, everything I've read about the series they're starting fresh, so it'd be a bit weird to have me pop in... I think that Harry Potter was always destined to become like Sherlock Holmes... There's probably an eight-year-old kid out there whose life is going to change in a couple years, so my brain does go there.”
Harry Potter: The Series has reportedly been in development since 2021 and will head to what was formerly known as HBO Max – now simply known as Max. It has been given a 10-year commitment by Warner Bros. Discovery and will be a “faithful adaptation” of the novels with an entirely new cast. JK Rowling will serve as executive producer.
