Hollywood psychiatrist has claimed Britney Spears needs new conservatorship.
A celebrity psychiatrist has explained he believes the Toxic singer needs the structure a new conservatorship would create in her life.
Dr Charles Sophy, the former medical director for the County of Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services, said he believes the Toxic singer is "completely dysfunctional" after she posted a series of erratic messages to her Instagram on 29 April.
"It doesn't surprise me at all because the conservatorship was there for a reason, and even though... it might not have been with the right person, the actual process needs to be in place," Dr Sophy told TMZ.
"When you have a mental illness of this degree, you need that kind of structure, supervision, and most importantly, to take your medication."
Britney, 42, was placed under a conservatorship managed primarily by father Jamie, 71, in 2008 after she was given a bipolar diagnosis and prescribed the mood stabiliser, lithium. The conservatorship was was dissolved 14 years later in November 2021.
Britney recently accused her parents of abusive behaviour via her Instagram, before deleting the account and then reinstating it.
Dr Sophy believes that despite Britney's widely publicised unhappiness under the conservatorship, she needs a new one.
"She's slowly unraveling and (the conservatorship) was in place and she wasn't unraveling," he argued.
"She might not have been happy, but she was stable."
