Coldplay’s Moon Music has already become the fastest-selling album of 2024 so far by a British act, Official Charts can confirm.
Already shifting over 160,000 chart units in 72 hours, Moon Music is set to earn the biggest week for a British act on the Official Albums Chart since Adele’s 30 debuted at Number 1 with 261,000 chart units in 2021.
The tenth album from Chris Martin, Guy Berryman, Johnny Buckland and Will Champion is all set to become the foursome’s 10th consecutive Number 1 studio album in the UK.
Taylor Swift still holds the record for the fastest-selling album of 2024 so far, with The Tortured Poets Department bowing in its first week with 270,000 chart units. Can Coldplay catch up by Friday?
London-formed alt-rock four-piece Public Service Broadcasting could secure their third Top 10 LP with The Last Flight (2), having previously reached the Top 10 with 2021’s Bright Magic (2) and 2017’s Every Valley (4).
Radiohead off-shoot group The Smile’s third record Cutouts looks to become their third consecutive Top 5 entry (3), while James Bay is predicted to earn his fourth Top 5 album come Friday thanks to Changes All The Time (5).
The 1975’s 2022 chart-topper Being Funny In A Foreign Language is looking towards a Top 10 re-entry (6) following the release of an exclusive, limited-edition liquid-filled vinyl, while ‘80s icon Alison Moyet heads for her first Top 10 album in 11 years (and sixth overall) with Ice (7).
Other possible new entries inside the Top 10 this week come from Aphex Twin’s Selected Ambient Works Volume II (8) and Jake Bugg’s A Modern Day Distraction (10).
Further down, FINNEAS is on track for his Official Albums Chart Top 40 debut with second studio record For Cryin’ Out Loud! (20), Caribou’s Honey could become the Canadian producer’s third Top 40 LP (24) while indie singer-songwriter Orla Gartland is predicted to net her second Top 40 record with Everybody Needs A Hero (25).
Former Black Midi frontman Geordie Greep’s debut solo record The New Sound creeps towards a Top 40 debut (31), as does Leon Bridges’ fourth album Leon (34) and “NO TITLE AS OF 13 FEBRUARY 2024 28,340 DEAD” by Godspeed You! Black Emperor (36).
