Britney Spears has admitted that fame made her feel like she was "living on the edge of a cliff".
In the first preview of her forthcoming memoir, The Woman in Me, the pop star opened up about her early years in the spotlight.
"I envy people who know how to make fame work," Britney, 41, wrote.
"My demeanour was innocent," she continued. "It wasn't an act. I didn't know what I was doing."
The Toxic hitmaker admitted, "I felt like I was living on the edge of a cliff."
Britney became an international success in 1998 with the release of her debut single ...Baby One More Time. The 1999 album of the same name and her sophomore release, Oops!... I Did It Again, are among the best-selling albums of all time.
Elsewhere in the memoir extract, Britney thanked her fans who supported her through her conservatorship, which was in place from February 2008 until November 2021.
"If you stood up for me when I couldn't stand up for myself, thank you," the singer wrote.
Actress Michelle Williams will be narrating the audio version of the tell-all memoir, as the singer has said that she would find it "too emotional" to narrate it herself.
"This book has been a labor of love and all the emotions that come with it. Reliving everything has been exciting, heart-wrenching, and emotional, to say the least," Britney explained. "For those reasons, I will only be reading a small part of my audiobook. I am so grateful to the amazing Michelle Williams for reading the rest of it."
The Woman in Me will be released on 24 October.
