Beyoncé has revealed her Renaissance concert film was one of her hardest projects due to its tight turnaround.

Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé, a part-documentary part-concert film, was filmed throughout the superstar's Renaissance World Tour, which ran between March and 1 October.

Beyoncé admitted on Instagram on Wednesday that cutting all the footage together in three months was really difficult.

"It was one of the hardest things I've ever done because of the short turn around time," she explained. "I practically slept in the edit, color, and mix sessions. The race against time continued in order to get this film out so quickly. But it was so worth all the grind."

While it was a challenge to make the 1 December release date, the 42-year-old feels "very proud" that her film premiered on that day, which also marks World AIDS Day, in memory of her Uncle Johnny, who died from an AIDS-related illness near the start of her career.

The Renaissance film topped the U.S. box office over the weekend, taking $21 million (£17 million).

In her Instagram post, which featured clips of moviegoers dancing in the cinema, the Crazy in Love singer thanked her fans for supporting the film.

"I just can't thank all of you enough for your support. I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of love from my Hive," she gushed. "And WOW! I am so touched and encouraged by the incredible reviews!!! I love seeing everyone all dressed up in their most opulent lewks in the theaters (sic)."

She added, "I pray I continue to make something that lifts all of y'all up the way you continue to lift me up. While I'm often critical and feel my art is never finished, the pendulum swings. I feel gratitude. 'We did it.' We have the #1 movie in the country! And a (100%) on Rotten Tomatoes... And it's because of you and your support! I humbly thank you."
