South African fast bowler Anrich Nortje has been ruled out of the ongoing T20I series against Pakistan and the following three-match ODI series. The 31-year-old had to sit out the opening game as he sustained a contusion to his left big toe, during training ahead of the game. Subsequent scans thereafter revealed that the bowler had suffered a fracture to his left toe.
All-rounder Dayyaan Galiem has been named as the replacement for Nortje. The uncapped pacer has picked up 46 wickets in his 60-game laden T20 career so far.
Nortje, meanwhile, has not played for South Africa since the ICC Men's T20 World Cup final in June this year where he was the highest wicket-taker for his nation with 15 scalps. He has also opted out of a national contract with South Africa due to workload management.
Nortje is fifth in a long list of bowlers who are currently injured for South Africa. Gerald Coetzee is out with a groin injury while Nandre Burger is out with a lower back stress fracture. Lungi Ngidi has a hip injury while Wiaan Mulder, who was ruled out after the first Test against Sri Lanka, has suffered a broken finger.
