The ex-Real Madrid player has been part of four World Cup campaigns for his nation. Furthermore, he ended up winning the competition last year in Qatar.
Diego Maradona was the manager of Argentina in 2010, and he picked Benfica‘s emerging talent. This was a breakthrough season for Di Maria as Real Madrid later signed him.
The 2014 edition was a heartbreak as Argentina lost to Germany in the final. The 2018 edition also ended in a heartbreak for the forward. Di Maria had already won the Olympic Gold Medal in 2008, but was in search of his first major trophy.
Angel Di Maria will retire from Argentina at 36
The 36-year-old was an integral part of the team during the Qatar World Cup and scored a sensational goal against France in the final.

He returned to his former club Benfica in 2023 and played for big clubs like Real Madrid, Manchester United, PSG and Juventus. Di Maria also won the UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid in the 2013/14 season.
