Duane Keith 'Keefe D' Davis has pleaded not guilty for the murder of Tupac Shakur at an arraignment in Nevada on Thursday.

Davis pleaded not guilty to the 1996 murder, reported The Associated Press, with public defenders Robert Arroyo and Charles Cano representing the 60 year old after he failed to meet the terms of an agreement with his original attorney, Ross Goodman.

The indictment alleged Davis obtained and provided a gun to someone in the back seat of a Cadillac before the car-to-car gunfire in Las Vegas on 7 September 1996 that mortally wounded Shakur and wounded rap music mogul Marion 'Suge' Knight.

The Hit Em Up rapper died a week later at the age of 25.

The judge told Davis that prosecutors are not seeking the death penalty in the case, which could put Davis in prison for the rest of his life if he is convicted.

Davis' 29 September charge was prompted by his own descriptions about orchestrating the deadly Las Vegas drive-by shooting during recent interviews and also in his memoir.

The ex-gang member contended that another person fired the fatal shots.

He has now faced charges of murder with use of a deadly weapon and intent to promote, further, or assist a criminal gang.

Davis' arrest followed the execution of a search warrant at his wife's home in Henderson, Nevada, in July, related to the investigation.
