September 16 - 1st T20I
Aliya Riaz's late assault proved too little as South Africa secured a comfortable 10-run win over Pakistan in the first T20I. Chasing 133 for a win, Aliya and Fatima Sana put on an unbeaten 75-run stand in only 44 balls, but Pakistan were restricted to 122 for 5 in the chase.
Much of the damage was caused by the South African pacers early on with the ball. Marizanne Kapp and Ayabonga Khakha made stingy starts, while the former and Tumi Sekhukhune also chipped in with a brace each to leave Pakistan reeling at 21 for 4 before a brief revival from Nida Dar and Aliya took them to 47 for 5.
With the top-order cleaned up and the required rate mounting, Sana kept the aggressive approach on, finding boundaries at regular intervals as also picking quick twos. Aliya, on the other hand, reserved her attack till late in the innings but by then the contest had slipped away.
Earlier in the day, led by Tazmin Brits's unbeaten 56, South Africa posted a competitive total. The Pakistani spinners, especially Sadia Iqbal who snapped three wickets and Nida Dar who bowled a miserly spell, ensured the visitors couldn't get control of the contest after being put in to bat.
Brief Scores: South Africa 132/4 in 20 overs (Tazmin Brits 56*, Sune Luus 27; Sadia Iqbal 3-34, Nida Dar 1-11) beat Pakistan 122/5 in 20 overs (Aliya Riaz 52*, Fatima Sana 37*; Tumi Sekhukhune 2-15, Marizanne Kapp 2-22) by 10 runs
