The gaming community is still undecided about whether or not adapters like the Titan One and CronusMAX are kosher. These magic little machines give gamers the ability to play with their favorite controller regardless of the platform. So, if you prefer an arcade stick or a keyboard and mouse, the Titan One and CronusMax have you covered.
There’s one major problem, though; the terms of service agreements on every major console forbid the use of hardware mods. Plus, adapters are consistently banned from tournaments, because the on-board memory chip allows shady gamers to utilize illegal scripts. So, over time, devices like these have developed a reputation for encouraging unfair play.
titanone vs cronusmaxBut not every gamer intends to cheat. Some just want to exercise their constitutional rights as an American citizen regarding controller preferences. Either way, they’ll need to contend with the adapters’ infamous reputation.
So, the important question is this: If you choose to use one of these adapters, are you going to get banned?
It’s possible, but probably not.
For the most part, consoles can’t tell the difference between these adapters and a standard controller, at least not currently.
John Moorhead, one of the folks behind the Titan One, put it this way:
“The console has no idea the Titan One is even connected, it thinks it’s just a normal controller. Getting banned online is not a problem at all. There is no way for the console to detect the use of it currently as it thinks it’s just a normal controller connected to it.”
In the future, developers like Microsoft and Sony could create software that detects objectionable hardware, but it’s probably not on their to-do list right now.
That being said, if you’re planning to use your Titan One and/or CronusMax for cheating, you’re a fucking douche bag. Knock it off.
