Shania Twain received pushback from country music because of her daring looks and music videos.

During an interview with the New York Post, the hitmaker opened up about not fitting in in the country music genre.

"I had a lot of pushback from the country-music genre," the Man! I Feel Like A Woman! singer told the outlet of the music videos for her biggest hits. "The visual elements were rejected entirely. They made country very nervous."

Shania added, "I don't feel I ever had country-music cred."

The performer noted that she didn't try to fit into the country music box because she had bigger plans for her music.

"But, like, I didn't try to fit in there. I wanted to be international," she shared. "And I'm so grateful that I didn't walk the line."

Shania reflected on her boundary-pushing looks and visuals from the music videos of her hit tracks That Don't Impress Me Much and Man! I Feel Like a Woman!

"It was just natural - I didn't know what it was gonna do," she said. "There was no specific mission. I wasn't thinking, 'Let's do something not typically country.' None of us had any experience in country videos... like, what they were meant to look like. I wanted to just try this and this and this. And I was given that freedom."
