Pakistan's ace pace bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi is all set to make his maiden appearance in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), as he has been roped by reigning champions Fortune Barishal.
The 11th edition of BPL, which is scheduled to start from December 30, will kick off between Fortune Barishal and newcomers Durbar Rajshahi at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
"Pakistani left arm fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi will play for Fortune Barishal in the upcoming BPL," the franchise said in a statement.
Fortune's official insisted that the 24-year-old was roped in as a direct signing and the pace bowler will be available for the opening five games of the competition as the Pakistan Cricket Board granted him a no-objection certificate till January 15.
The other direct signings for Fortune to date are Kyle Mayers, Dawid Malan, Mohammad Nabi, Faheem Ashraf, Ali Mohammad and Jahandad Khan, while James Fuller, Pathum Nissanka and Nandre Burger were picked from the players' draft.
Fortune are also bolstered by a strong set of local players including Tamim Iqbal, Towhid Hridoy, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah Riyad, Tanvir Islam, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Ripon Mondol, Ebadot Hossain, Nayeem Hasan, Rishad Hossain and Taijul Islam.
The BPL, which will feature seven franchises, - Dhaka Capitals, Chittagong Kings, Durbar Rajshahi, Fortune Barishal, Khulna Tigers, Rangpur Riders, and Sylhet Strikers - is scheduled to be played until February 7.
