Selena Gomez has explained why she has been silent on social media amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.
The Lose You to Love Me singer explained on her Instagram Stories on Monday night that she had to take a break from social media after the conflict began earlier this month.
"I've been taking a break from social media because my heart breaks to see all of the horror, hate, violence, and terror that's going on in the world," she wrote. "People being tortured and killed or any act of hate towards any one group is horrific. We need to protect ALL people, especially children and stop the violence for good."
Selena, 31, then revealed she didn't believe a social media post could make a difference.
"I'm sorry if my words will never be enough for everyone or a hashtag. I just can't stand by innocent people geting (sic) hurt. That's what makes me sick. I wish I could change the world. But a post won't. Love, Selena," she continued.
The Only Murders in the Building actress later posted a black-and-white photo of her 10-year-old half-sister Grace performing on a stage and added, "Having a sister, everyday has made me tragically sick. I would do anything for children and innocent lives."
Selena has come under fire for her statement, with her followers insisting that she has the platform and the power to make an impact given that she is the most-followed woman on Instagram. Selena is followed by more than 430 million people.
