India Captain Rohit Sharma surpassed his New Zealand counterpart Kane Williamson in becoming the highest run-scorer among captains in the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 history. Rohit achieved this feat by accumulating 597 runs in 11 innings, including three half-centuries and a remarkable century of 134 runs against Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

In the 2019 edition, Williamson had scored 578 runs, contributing significantly with two centuries as his team finished as runners-up against England. Mahela Jayawardene, the losing captain in the 2007 tournament in the Caribbean, secured the third position on the leaderboard with 548 runs.
Rohit Sharma displayed his aggressive style during the summit clash against the five-time world champions, hitting four boundaries and three sixes. Throughout the tournament, the 36-year-old embraced a different role, playing as an aggressor upfront to maximize the powerplay overs for Team India.
Even in the final, Rohit continued attacking, taking on bowlers such as Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc. He secured multiple boundaries, including a six against Hazlewood, and dispatched Starc for a maximum down the ground while the pacer dismissed opener Shubman Gill for four runs.
