Last time’s Champions League winners Manchester City will face RB Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena in their next group-stage clash.

Both Man City and Die Roten Bullen currently sit joint top of Group G after beating Red Star Belgrade and Young Boys respectively by a 3-1 scoreline in their opening fixture two weeks ago.

Despite losing their key player, Josko Gvardiol this summer, RB Leipzig has made an impressive start to the new season. The Germans have won seven games, with just one draw and one loss in their first nine games in all competitions.

Leipzig have won 12 and drawn three of their last 17 home fixtures in all competitions since the turn of the year. Die Roten Bullen will seek revenge against reigning champions Man City after suffering a heavy 8-1 aggregate loss to the Citizens in the round of 16 last season.

Soooo ready for our first @ChampionsLeague home game of the season 🤩

Man City have suffered back-to-back losses in all competitions for the first time since January of last season. After their Carabao Cup defeat against Newcastle United, they also lost to Wolves in the Premier League last weekend.

Furthermore, they have gone behind four times in their last five games, losing twice in this run. So, Pep Guardiola’s side cannot afford to drop points against an inform Leipzig before facing Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

However, City have only lost two of their last 30 matches in the group stage. But, the treble winners have failed to win in each of their last four visits to Germany, including their previous two trips to Leipzig. The 1-1 draw last season preceded by a 2-1 defeat at the Red Bull Arena in the 2021/22 Champions League group stage.

Another busy week ahead 👊

RB Leipzig team news
For Leipzig, Kevin Kampl, Timo Werner, Dani Olmo, Willi Orban and El Chadaille Bitshiabu will all miss the clash against Man City. Xaver Schlager, who scored against Young Boys, will start with Xavi Simons and Emil Forsberg at the heart of Leipzig’s midfield.

Benjamin Sesko has scored five goals in eight games across all competitions this season, but has only started one game. Marco Rose will start him on the bench, and will give a notch to Yussuf Poulsen.

Manchester City team news
As of Manchester City, Kevin De Bruyne and John Stones will miss this clash. Whereas Bernardo Silva is doubtful for this one. Rodri is serving a domestic suspension but will start in this game alongside either of Mateo Kovacic or Matheus Nunes.

Gvardiol is also in contention to start against his former club alongside Akanji and Ruben Dias. Jack Grealish could replace Jeremy Doku or Phil Foden in attack.

Julian Alvarez scored a brace against Red Star in matchday one and is likely to start alongside Erling Haaland, who has scored 11 goals against RB Leipzig in just six games.

RB Leipzig vs Manchester City Predicted line-ups
RB Leipzig (4-2-2-2): Blaswich; Henrichs, Simakan, Lukeba, Raum; Schlager, Seiwald; Simons, Forsberg; Poulsen, Openda

Manchester City (4-2-3-1): Ederson; Walker, Akanji, Dias, Gvardiol; Rodri, Kovacic; Foden, Alvarez, Grealish; Haaland

Prediction
RB Leipzig 1-3 Manchester City

Man City have struggled in recent games, but they have been the most consistent team forquite some time. However, a close affair is expected as Leipzig plays at home, and they will look to harm City. But, the return of Rodri will give Man City a huge boost.
