The Steam massive has spoken. These are the best PC games of 2017, regardless of what year they actually came out.
Valve has revealed the winners of its whimsical, now-annual Steam Awards, in which users vote for game released any old time that they feel best qualify for a range of unusual categories.
To nobody’s surprise, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds – the biggest new release PC game of 2017 – was honoured with a gong. It received the Mom’s Spaghetti trophy, which is described as:
“There are games that make you excited. There are games that make you happy. Then there are games so intense that they elicit a physical reaction. We’re talking weak knees. We’re talking sweaty palms. We’re talking fear-induced accidents. We’re talking your friends reminding you to breathe. We’re talking about mom’s spaghetti.”
Certainly lines up with PUBG’s tense player on player action, doesn’t it.
Cuphead was the only game to score two awards, taking home both Best Soundtrack and Even Better Than I Expected. The challenging retro-styled platformer has clearly won some hearts.
The Witcher 3 won Choices Matter, a category awarded for games that make you feel like your agency is important. Despite being a single-player affair with no sexy online elements to increase its longevity, the blockbuster RPG still attracts tens of thousands of Steam users daily and was one of Steam’s best selling games of 2017. It came out in May 2015. I love it, you love it, we all love it.
