So a while back I did an editorial over what the future of Payday 2 held. If you remember, I left it on the ominous note of this count down right here!
Now that countdown is still going strong with just under 20 days as of writing this. What has come to light though is Payday‘s third anniversary of the franchise titled CrimeFest! Now you may be wondering what is CrimeFest and what juicy happenings will we get to see? Well, you’ll have to reign yourself in, because unfortunately CrimeFest will be in full swing on October 18th (which adds yet another fun bit of Gaming to our jam-packed full month already! – minus Battlefield now).
Well, it may take a while to get here but Overkill have been kind enough to let us know what they’re planning and you’ve probably already guessed it; Guns, Goodies and Masks galore! Sounds too good to be true – well it slightly is, sadly. The only way to get the loot will be if more player milestones are hit. Overkill want to hit 1.5 Million players – which is optimistic for a smaller game, but then again the community is already fast approaching 1 Million.
So the big question then is, can Overkill in the space of just under 3 months get in another 500,000 players? Well let’s do some maths (YAY!). Payday 2 came out on the 13th of August 2013, meaning it’s been 11 months and nearly 2 weeks since release. It’s taken that time to hit just under 1 million players, but let’s just say 1 million anyway. That’s 87,000 players per month on average (rounding up). To get the 500,000 in under 3 months they’d need ALOT more than that, nearly double as a matter of fact.
But moving away from the maths, which admittedly ignored how well it was trending (I don’t know where to find that data sadly) let us focus instead on the goodies to come. At 1,000,000 we’re looking at a Judge Gun (which is a shotgun apparently) and a money bundle melee weapon, both of those sound awesome to me purely because using the Judge Gun I will be shouting “I AM THE LAW!” to the upset of my team mates. Moving on there’s the possibility of Payday 1 being totally free during Crime Fest, pretty awesome and I’d love to start-up my old Character but will people want to go backward when the games been improved so much? Instead why not port the heists over to Payday 2? I’d kill for that! We’ve then got a bunch of things such as Masks courtesy of Bain, Free DLC for everyone, Framing Frame day 1 will become it’s very own heist (hopefully this gets changed up slightly, but it’s still a fun prospect. I’d just prefer a BIG art museum much like Big Bank).
There are some incredibly cool goodies to grab in Crime Fest and I truly hope that Overkill reach their goal of 1.5 Million players because not many studios out there are given the same chances they were and have come through with solid support, fun content and amazing gameplay.
So what do you think is still to come for the count down?
What’s your favourite reward for CrimeFest or what would you like to see changed?
I’ll see all you heisters October 18th!
