Paul McCartney feels "joy" when looking back at his time in The Beatles.

In an interview with The Herald Sun via Mail Online, the rock legend shared that he feels emotional when looking back at photos or videos of his time in the iconic British band.

"When you look at pictures of yourself quite a bit younger, there's a lot of emotion. I think one of them is, 'Boy, didn't I look good?'" Paul, 81, said. "Well, we all looked young and beautiful. I think everyone experiences it. You look at pictures of yourself in college and think, 'God, I didn't even think I looked good,' but I was wrong; I do look good."

The musician added that he is "proud" to have captured his time in the band on camera.

"I'm very proud to have been through that period and to have had the luxury of capturing that period. How great does John (Lennon) look?" he said. "How handsome is George (Harrison) and how funny is Ringo (Starr)? I just like the positive aspects of these things. The joy of the past."

Earlier this year, The Hey Jude singer announced that he would be performing in Australia for the first time in six years as part of his Got Back tour.

The trek will kick off in Adelaide on 18 October. He will hit cities including Melbourne and Newcastle before wrapping up in the Gold Coast on 4 November.

Paul will then make his way to Brazil for five shows, beginning on 30 November.
