The UK's most notorious serial killers were arrested in 1994
Netflix will be turning the lives of serial killers Fred and Rose West into a true crime documentary series.
Between 1967 and 1987, Fred West murdered at least 12 young women, the majority in collaboration with his wife, Rose West. Fred is believed to have killed at least two of the victims alone, while Rose is known to have murdered Fred’s stepdaughter, Charmaine. The couple were arrested in 1994.
Fred West died by suicide while awaiting trial in 1995. Rose West was convicted of ten murders and sentenced to ten life terms with a “whole life” order, meaning she must be in prison until her death. She is currently still alive and serving her sentence.
A report by Deadline has revealed that the documentary series, title Fred & Rose West: A British Horror Story, “will feature family members of some of the West’s victims speaking for the first time along with previously unseen police video and unheard audio recordings”.
The show will be released on May 14 on Netflix and consist of three episodes, titled Fred, Rose, and The Trial. This is the second in the British Horror Story series, following 2022’s Jimmy Savile: A British Horror Story, which explored the many accusations of abuse surrounding the late TV presenter.
Dan Dewsbury, who will direct the show, told the outlet: “Getting access to never before seen video, never before heard tapes, access to people who have never previously spoken about the case, whilst also balancing the sensitivities of the families, after decades of quiet heartbreak and strength, has been inspiring to be part of”. He added: “We have huge respect for the police investigation which led to Fred and Rose West being held responsible for the crimes”.
Many television documentaries have been made on the Wests since their arrest. A TV dramatization, titled Appropriate Adult, starring The Wire actor Dominic West in the role of Fred West, while Monical Dolan played Rose.
