Manchester United and Aston Villa played out an enthralling game at the Old Trafford as Erik Ten Hag’s men has returned to winning ways finally, with a 3-2 score line going in their favor, courtesy a Garnacho double and Hojlund maiden goal. Manchester United fans would be rejoicing over their Christmas present as they have finally got something with their club to be content with.
Manchester United defeats Aston Villa
Manchester United has once again proved their critics about the authenticity of their legacy, as they have shown glimpses of yesteryear’s Red Devils team, with an outstanding comeback from being 0-2 down at the end of first half to win 3-2 at the end of regulation time. Along with United fans, Danish star Rasmus Hojlund would be on the seventh heaven as he has got the back of the net for the first time in more than 20 games, thus scoring his debut goal in some style.
In a match post Christmas which was considered to be a crunch fixture for Erik Ten Hag’s men as they were coming on the back of a 0-2 defeat in the hands of West Ham over the weekend, with the Dutchman’s job on the line. But, United might have started what could be called a potential remontada as Sir Jim Ratcliffe is at their helm, with his INEOS group claiming a part of their stake from the Glazers’ Family, thus promising to go all guns blazing and fire at what comes to them. Last night, although it looked to be a tough nut to crack for United as Aston Villa has been going strong throughout the season, and are currently well placed for a top four finish at the end of the season, Red Devils managed to get past the stern test presented by Unai Emery’s side, even after trailing 0-2 in the first half.

A dreamy second half followed by a staggering first half
Manchester United had started the game on a positive note, with their high-pressing keeping Villa on their feet, as an Eriksen half-volley almost handed United their first goal, but Argentine World Cup winner Emi Martinez was well positioned to thwart the ball away. But, it all came down to a John McGinn free-kick who fooled the United faithful by his stunning free-kick which took everyone by surprise, before drifting to the back of the net. Things turned from bad to worse for the United players as they found themselves 0-2 down when a set-piece cornered them with Dendoncker smashing his first goal for the Villans, as several players were left unmarked, thus exposing United’s defensive frailties once again.
A strong second performance helped United to echo their turnaround across the Old Trafford as Garnacho almost pulled one back just after restart, but found his shot called for offside, helping Villa to maintain their lead.
Garnacho: “We are Manchester United. We never give up”.

Garnacho finally managed to get on the score sheet when United sprang upon a worse Villa mistake, as they gave the ball away, when Marcus Rashford, the homegrown Manchester United boy cut a perfect cross for the Argentine, who swung in a perfect goal on the hour mark, thus reducing the deficit to 1-2.
He was once again at the helm of scoring the leveler when he scored with a perfect shot just above the penalty spot, thus firing the game wide open with a score line of 2-2, with 19 minutes left on the clock, and the match staged for a grandstand finish.
Then comes Hojlund’s banger, from a Bruno Fernandes corner, as the Dane was finally able to break the shackles with the United shirt. After the ball pounced in front of the Scandinavian giant, he was potent enough to see off the ball in style, when he could see the opportunity to fire the ball past Emi Martinez at the Villa goal. With eight minutes left, the game was all but over for Erik Ten Hag’s side, as Hojlund opened his Manchester United account in some grand fashion, by scoring the winner, as this stern victory was a statement to their past results, as they inch closer to the top four, as Aston falter once again after a 1-1 draw at Sheffield.
A player that the young Rasmus would be proud to look up to
