Liverpool and Everton would be looking forward to their first Merseyside Derby of this season, as both sides would be fearing up for a fierce battle on the field, as Premier League would resume this weekend after a sabbatical of few days for the International Break.
A clash of the ages
Liverpool and Everton- the age-old clash which ignites a fierce rivalry since years, is set to be on the cards once again as Premier League resumes this weekend after a hiatus from International Break. Fans and supporters from both sides await patiently with an urge to go behind their team with their support and wishes, thus settling for one of the oldest battles in Premier League history. Liverpool, with their Reds Army would gear up to host their fierce rivals from the other side, the “Toffees”, as the Everton fans would be prepared to thwart away any attack that comes their way.
For Liverpool, things have been a little topsy-turvy as Jurgen Klopp’s men would be facing their arch rivals without a victory in their last few games. Although they had started off the season comparatively well, as their winning streak had brought them to a top-four contention, but things seem to have fallen apart in their last fixtures. Starting with their heartbreaking loss against current league leaders Tottenham, which came at the cost of a “significant human error” from the side of match officials while disallowing Luis Diaz goal, leading to PGMOL admitting the harrowing mistake of Darren England and his colleagues, before rounding off their awful night with a Joel Matip own goal, helping Spurs with a bittersweet victory.
In their next fixture, they were up against a tough side Brighton, and had to settle for a 2-2 stalemate, after pegging back in last 15 minutes. Thus, it would be safe to say that their preparations against Everton would not be very fruitful, leaving them three points behind Tottenham.

As for Everton, their little revert to winning ways had posed a sweet return to the League, as they would be hoping to continue that streak. After garnering a solitary point in their opening five games, the Toffees had won two of their last three games. Their first league victory came against Brentford, before suffering a shock defeat in the hands of Premier League debutants Luton Town 1-2. But the Toffees had made a remarkable turnaround in the last game, winning 3-0 against Bournemouth at their home, thus showcasing a gradual rise on the table, currently on 16th spot.

With a starry clash on the cards, both teams would look to field their strongest elevens, but injuries might force them to make some changes to their potent eleven. For Jurgen Klopp’s men, it is reported that all of their star players have remained unscathed, without injuries, but they have to bear the brunt of some suspension issues, as star playmaker Curtis Jones still has two games to his name where he is slated to miss, whereas Diogo Jota would be available for selection. Cody Gakpo remains doubtful ahead of the crunch fixture, as Thiago and Bajcetic are also considered to be unavailable.

As for Everton, former Spurs superstar Dele Alli is reported to be injured once again on his way to recovery thus is expected to miss out. But, on the positive note, Andre Gomes, old guard Seamus Coleman and Idrissa Gueye would get the chance in the first team, thus bolstering the team.
