In latest football match news, Indian Football Team have given its fans one of the important result in their upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifiers tourney as they have defeated a stern Kuwait side at their home turf by a solitary goal. Mohun Bagan Supergiants striker Manvir Singh was instrumental in giving the side a winner with fifteen minutes left on clock, as India snatches all three points from Kuwait City.

India defeats dominating Kuwait side
Indian Football Team has seen its meteoric rise in last few months, owing to the exuberant displays from its stalwarts in the form of Sunil Chhetri, Gurpreet Sandhu and Sandesh Jhinghan among others. They had won three tournaments on trot few months earlier, and were even given the chance to take part in Asian games, after an initial turmoil.

Boss Igor Stimac has been instrumental in enforcing the winning mentality as the former Croat World Cup player brought his industrious side to the team. As a result of their dominating performances in friendlies and other tournaments like SAFF Championship and Intercontinental Cup, India earned the respect and chance to play in the second round of FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers from the Asian sector.

They are placed in Group A where along with the Blue Tigers, Asian champions and 2022 World Cup hosts Qatar, Kuwait and Afghanistan are present. Last night, India kicked off their World Cup Qualifiers journey with a sweet victory away at Kuwait, against a side which is quite familiar to Igor Stimac’s side, as they had defeated the sturdy Asian side in the SAFF Cup final in July.

A historic victory
Indian Football Team has been phenomenal in their performances since last few months. Some glimpses of their swashbuckling performance was evident from last night’s historic victory, as Stimac had started his strongest side in bid for the third round of World Cup qualifiers, which also includes a qualification in 2027 AFC Asian Cup, as top two sides will be getting the tickets directly.

In a side which has always been criticized for its devoid of height as pointed by coach Igor Stimac ahead of the game where the Croatian boss even saying that this height issue might cause a problem for his side against a towering Kuwait team, the tall frame of Manvir Singh appeared to be a band-aid for this problem.

The MBSG forward was pivotal at the forward line-up for the Indians, as his inch-perfect strike from Chhangte’s cross proved to be the difference between two sides, as India started their World Cup qualifiers on a winning note, in an away game which felt more Indian-like, as Middle East’s largest demographic immigrant’s Indian supporters surpassed the Kuwaiti fans.

The Indian expatriate community at Jaber Al-Ahmad stadium had the loudest cheers when India was pressing ahead in the game, often creating chances to take an unassailable lead. The ‘home’ support went louder when MBSG star Sahal Abdul Samad was seen with the ball, as the former Kerala Blasters player used to grace the field in Kuwait during his formative years.

This was the third meeting between these two sides this year, with the first game being known for the exuberance and finesse of both sides, and the second would be known for intense battles which ended with the Blue Tigers winning the game on penalties to take the SAFF Cup.

Kuwait was lot more lackluster with the ball as they could not string together a lot of passes contrary to the Indian side, which was playing to its mettle. foraying passes and setting up enterprising attacks.

A massive thank you to the fans supporting us today 🙏

With a strong first half display from both sides, the second half was poised for a lovely finish, as India came to the field with more hunger to grab a goal. An opportunity was presented on the 75th minute, when Akash Mishra pounced upon a chance to showcase his mettle, gliding past Kuwaiti midfield and producing a sweet slide pass to Chhangte.

The winger from India’s football hub, the Northeastern state Mizoram, who was brought on as a substitute, passed a ball in the middle of Kuwait box. Manvir, who was ahead of left-back Sultan Al-Enezi, slotted past Kuwait custodian Kameel with his left foot, into the near post, marking his return to the national set-up.

Weeks before this crunch fixture, no one would have given India a chance to win this game, as Anwar Ali, the central defender and a wall in the defense was injured. He was joined by Jeakson Singh on the sidelines, and a win without these two main men seemed unlikely for Stimac’s side. But as people say, never rule out an Indian side which has the third highest active goal scorer for countries on the list in the form of Sunil Chhetri, closely behind Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Last night too, Chhetri was spearheading the charge for the Blue Tigers, thus playing an important role with the attacks. They face another stern test against Asian champions Qatar in their next fixture, four days later, to be staged in their home turf, Bhubaneshwar, who defeated minnows Afghanistan 8-1in the earlier game, as the Blue Tigers would be looking to continue their winning march.
