South Africa spinner Keshav Maharaj is out of the remainder of the ongoing ODI series against Pakistan at home. Maharaj, who was named in the XI for the series opener on December 17, suffered an injury while warming up for it and didn't play the game. Subsequent scans revealed that Maharaj has a left abductor strain, ruling him out of the 2nd and 3rd ODI on December 19 and 22. South Africa have named Bjorn Fortuin as his replacement for those fixtures.
This comes a day after South Africa chose to name him in the Test squad, despite his injury, for the two home games - both crucial to their quest to make next year's World Test Championship final. South Africa are currently top of the table for the 2023-25 cycle, with a PCT of 63.330.
A CSA release stated that Maharaj will return home to Durban for rehabilitation and will be assessed ahead of the first Test, starting just a week away on December 26 in Centurion.
