Fifties from Mominul Haque and Jaker Ali helped Bangladesh avoid the follow-on on Day 3 of the Antigua Test but West Indies continued their stronghold on the game by reducing the visitors to 269 for 9 by Stumps.

Resuming from 40 for 2, the Bangladesh batters did get starts but none of them were able to convert it into a substantial score amidst the pressure created by the West Indies bowlers. The day started with Kemar Roach providing an early breakthrough to reduce the visitors to 66 for 3 with the wicket of Shahdat Hossain on 18. Mominul, the other overnight batter, then found company in Litton Das to put up a fight.

Together the experienced pair added 62 runs for the fourth-wicket as the pitch still remained good to bat on. Litton took Bangladesh past the 100-run mark with a cover boundary in the final over before Lunch, as the visitors kept the hungry West Indies pacers at bay for the remainder of the morning session, to show signs of a comeback through their senior players.

However, it all came undone quickly after the break. Jayden Seales returned into the attack and struck first ball when he trapped Mominul LBW on 50. The senior Bangladesh batter had just completed a patient 115-ball half-century off the final delivery in the last over, and he even burnt a team's review on a plumb call.

The Josephs began creating some chances, and even consumed a review on Mehidy Hasan Miraz, until Shamar Joseph was finally rewarded. The pacer rocked back Litton's stumps, denying him a fifty by 10 runs after a handy knock to bail Bangladesh out of early trouble.

That brought Jaker on to the pitch, and he dug in to take his team to Tea without any further loss at 165 for 5. Mehidy, however, didn't stay long after the break as Alzarri Joseph joined the wicket-taking party with a short one. Jaker then joined hands with Taijul Islam, and together the pair put on 68 runs for the seventh wicket which was also Bangladesh's best partnership of the day.

The pair took Bangladesh past the 200-run mark just after the second new ball had been taken, but just as Taijul began to find the find boundaries more often, Alzarri returned to end his resilience on 25. At the other end, Justin Greaves sent back Jaker shortly after he reached his half-century. Even though the late resistance allowed Bangladesh to avoid the embarrassment of a follow-on, Greaves had his second scalp in the closing minutes of play when he had Hasan Mahmud caught in the slips to leave the visitors still 181 behind with only the last wicket in hand.

Brief scores: Bangladesh 269/9 (Jaker Ali 53, Mominul Haque 50; Alzarri Joseph 3-69, Jayden Seales 2-42) trail West Indies 450/9 decl., by 181 runs
