Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas says Lionel Messi will receive a proper farewell at Barcelona. Mas has also given his word to bid a proper farewell in the coming years.
Messi spent more than 20 years at Barcelona after joining them at the age of 13. He became one of the greatest player of all time while playing for the Catalan club. However, his reign with Barca ended in 2021 after the club was in a financial turmoil.

Messi had no option but to leave the club. He then decided to join PSG on a two-year deal where he was reunited with former Barca player Neymar.
The Argentine left the French club this summer and was eager to join Barcelona, and talks did take place in the summer. However, Barcelona were still unable to afford his salary, so he decided to join Inter Miami.

Nevertheless, both clubs are eager to give him a proper farewell in the near future. One of the ways to give a send-off could be match a between Barcelona and Inter Miami in the annual Joan Gamer trophy.
However, Barcelona are currently playing at the city’s Olympic Stadium as Spotify Camp Nou is renovating. The new Camp Nou is due to open in November 2024.
Speaking to MARCA, Jorge Mas said: “Messi’s departure from Barcelona in 2021 was not to his liking. He could not say goodbye to his club, which welcomed him as a child, and I think the circumstances were not what Lionel wanted.
“We will do everything possible in the coming years so that he has the opportunity to say goodbye to his fans in Barcelona. Inter Miami will go there, or we will play some kind of game.”
