Bangladesh clinched the three-match T20Iseries by taking a 2-0 lead on the back of a clinical performance by the bowlers as they defended a modest total of 129 to secure a 27-run victory over West Indies in the second T20I at Arnos Vale Ground, St Vincent on Wednesday. It also marked their lowest total successfully defended while batting first against the West Indies in the shortest format.
However, Shamim Hossain played a crucial role with the bat as he provided late resistance with a blistering unbeaten knock 35 off 17 balls, including two fours and two sixes and his 41-run stand with Tanzim Hasan Sakib, who remained unbeaten on 9, lifted Bangladesh to a competitive total after Bangladesh faced challenges against a spin-heavy West Indies attack.
"I always think that however situation the team is in, if I play well, we'll reach a decent total. I always have the positive thinking," Shamim, who was adjudged player of the match, told reporters after the game at St Vincent on Wednesday.
"I played well in HP, emerging team and wherever I played and that's why I was confident of doing well. Happy that I could play well, my family and the country are happy too.
"We won T20 series in West Indies and that's a huge achievement," he said.
Shamim, who also played well in the opening T20Is by making 27 runs on his comeback game after a year, insisted that he was not worried while passing his time in wilderness as he always felt that he would return sooner than later.
"I don't think that much (on when I will make a comeback when I was away from the team) and I just tried to keep a positive mindset and stay happy," he said.
"I was confident I would make a comeback," he said adding that he also hasn't thought about not getting a chance in the T20 World Cup. "What's gone is gone," he said.
Shamim added that he feels he still have a long way to go and currently working on his fitness and batting.
"This is just the beginning. I have a long way to go. Let's see," he said. "I'm currently working on my fitness and working on my batting as well," he concluded.
