Harry Kane continues his impressive run of form at Bundesliga, as he scored the only goal in Bayern’s victory against Cologne, as the win takes Bayern to the top of the table. Along with victory, Kane etched his name in the history books of Bundesliga history as he became the highest scoring Englishman in a single season with his winner.
Harry Kane- the striking maestro
Harry Kane has been one of the biggest names in German football this season. After coming from Tottenham Hotspurs last season, with the highest amount of goals in his bag, Kane has taken over Bundesliga by storm, as Thomas Tuchel’s side seems to have found a perfect foil for Robert Lewandowski, Bayern’s record goal scorer. Kane did start his season on a losing note, after being defeated at the finals of German Super Cup to RB Leipzig, but since then, he had switched to his “Hurri-Kane” mood, scoring in almost every game. Last night, with his winner against Cologne, he became the highest scoring Englishman with 18 goals in a single season, surpassing fellow compatriot Jadon Sancho who scored 17 in 2019-20 season.
Kane smacked off a rebound from Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, whose effort was meticulously saved with a goal-line clearance. The Premier League record striker, with 47 goals shy of legendary Alan Shearer, scored his 18th of the season, with just 20 minutes on clock. The German champions could have scored more goals as they threated to do so, but lacked their finishing chances thus ending the score line at 1-0 in favor of the visitors.

One for the history books
Bayern could have ran riot against Baumgart’s side, who slumped to eight straight defeats in 12 fixtures, having an inferior goal scoring difference to Union Berlin. Choupo-Moting had passed up several chances in the opening minutes, before inadvertently teeing up Harry Kane, as Austrian Konrad Laimer created a run with the ball, with his goal-bound effort falling in Kane’s arc, who scored the 18th goal of his season, overtaking Jadon Sancho. Leroy Sane almost grabbed another, but saw his effort being parried away by Marvin Schwabe.
Tuchel’s side did not have much to worry about, except in the dying minutes of first-half when Rasmus Carstensen’s back post header forced a jumping Manuel Neuer, who carried on his outstanding streak for one more game. Cologne did restructure their attack after the restart, but could not accumulate string of passes which could test Neuer to his feet. Bayern’s impetus was calmed a bit until Coman saw his effort struck the crossbar from a free-corner.

“I feet at home”
After getting into the history books, Kane was heard speaking in post-match interview, “I’m feeling good. I feel at home here. Everyone’s welcomed me really well from the players, the staff, the club, the fans and I just want to repay them every time I step out onto the pitch. We’ve got fantastic players around me who are creating chances for me, so I’ve just got to make sure I’m in the right place at the right time.”
He further added, “I’ve had some good moments in my career and good spells, but this is definitely one of the best. I feel good going into every game. I know I’m going to get chances going into the game and that was a nice one that fell to my feet there – one of the easier ones I’ll probably score in my career.”
It would be safe to say that Kane has been enjoying his life in Germany, as he insists on scoring more goals for the club in the coming days.
