Harry Brook has withdrawn from England’s Test squad set to tour India due to personal reasons, causing him to miss the beginning of the five-Test series. Dan Lawrence has been called up as Brook’s replacement. Originally scheduled to arrive in Hyderabad on Sunday for the first Test starting on Thursday, Brook has returned home from the team’s training camp in the UAE.

In a statement, the ECB stated, “Harry Brook is set to return home with immediate effect for personal reasons from the England Men’s Test tour of India. The Brook family respectfully requests privacy during this time. In light of this, the ECB and the family kindly request the media and the public to respect their wish for privacy and refrain from intruding on their private space.”
Harry Brook out of India Tour: Will his absence affect team England?
Brook’s absence is a significant setback for England’s quest to become the first team to win a Test series in India in over a decade. Since his debut in the final Test of the 2022 summer, Brook has averaged 62.15, with a strike rate of 91.76, from 12 appearances, including four centuries. With Ollie Pope fit to return in India, England may need to reassess their middle order.
Jonny Bairstow might be considered as a specialist batter at No. 5, with Ben Foakes available to keep wicket. Dan Lawrence, who was part of the Test squad last summer, will join the team in India after recently arriving in the UAE from the Big Bash League.
England has additional options in the England Lions party currently in India, with Josh Bohannon particularly impressive after scoring a century in Ahmedabad earlier this week. The team will undergo training at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Monday after spending the last ten days acclimatizing in Abu Dhabi for the tour.
