Girls Aloud have reportedly been lined up to perform at Glastonbury next year.
The band recently confirmed a U.K. and Ireland reunion tour, and now sources have claimed the girls will take to the Pyramid stage for the Legends slot on the final day of the iconic music festival.
“Girls Aloud have been at the top of the wish list to play after rumours of a reunion emerged,” a source told The Sun newspaper.
“The festival needs some girl power after last year’s all-male line-up and the girls fit the bill.
“They also have a huge back catalogue of pop anthems, so all ages will be singing along — exactly what the Legends slot is all about.”
If the rumours are true, it means Cheryl, Nicola Roberts, Nadine Coyle and Kimberley Walsh will follow in the footsteps of acts including Yusuf/Cat Stevens, Lionel Richie, Tom Jones and Diana Ross in landing the Legends slot.
Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis has made no secret of her desire to secure female stars in prominent spots at the festival, which is traditionally held in June.
“The music industry needs to invest in more female musicians to create future headliners,” she previously said.
Dua Lipa and Madonna have been tipped to appear as headline acts.
Last week Girls Aloud announced a 2024 reunion tour more than 10 years after they disbanded.
While no new material is planned for the shows, fans have been promised the concerts will feature all the band’s greatest hits.
This will be the first time Girls Aloud perform live as a foursome since the death of bandmate Sarah Harding in 2021.
