Manchester City has showcased once again that why they are called the best team in England, as they completed a historic turnaround against a sturdy Everton side, which almost took their breath away when they were trailing by 0-1 in the first half. Some swashbuckling performances from Foden, Alvarez and Silva inspired a perfect comeback victory for the defending champions as they muster all three points away.

Manchester City defeats Everton
Manchester City, who has recently been crowned the champions of the World when they ran riot against Brazilian heavyweights Fluminense in an intense fight at the Middle East, with Argentine World Cup winner Julian Alvarez led Pep Guardiola’s side to claim their maiden Club World Cup title, travelled to Everton with three points in the back of their minds. Although the Premier League giants have been wreaking havoc in the European elite stage at UEFA Champions League, they were a bit distraught in the domestic sector, after losing and drawing few crunch games, which have left them within the top four position. Thus, they would have wanted to go all guns blazing in this fixture against a side which has been handed a 10-point deduction owing to breaching of football rules, but were treated to a hostile crowd which was in favor of the hosts. As a result, banking on their home support, Jack Harrison fired their first shot on target, with Dwight McNeil’s latch-on Rodri’s poor pass laid the foundation of the home side’s first goal, which caught Pep and his team distraught and scrambling for possession and goals. It was also a sucker punch for the Cityzens when Harrison, a former member of their squad, fired the opener.

City further looked hapless when star stopper John Stones was taken off due to injury before the break, and replaced by Josko Gvardiol, as Pep looked to explore further options to go for counter-attacks, keeping his defense intact.

A typical Manchester City-esque comeback on the cards
Although the sides went to break with City trailing 0-1, City was always in the game with the firepower they have in their arsenal. As expected, it was Manchester City’s homegrown Phil Foden who fired the equalizer, thus restoring the parity as soon as play resumed. Foden was instrumental to bring his side on level terms, as he pulled his shot from 25 yards to make the score 1-1, as English goalkeeper Jordan Pickford hardly had anything to save the shot.

Alvarez, an Argentine superstar who has etched his name on the history books by winning all trophies and completing football at the tender age of 23, scored the second goal of the night from the spot, thus earning the bragging rights from the home side. It was Amadou Onana’s handball which led referee to step up and give City a well-deserved penalty, thus Alvarez making no mistake in scoring the second goal of the night for Pep’s brigade. With his goal last night, La Arana added to his tally of 11 goals, having a humongous 20 goal contributions with the Cityzens this season.

Bernardo Silva- the hero with a out-of-the-world goal

Although the score was in favor of City who were ruling the game with their possession and passing-play, it was Dominic Calvert-Lewin who got the best chance for the Toffees to equalize, but poked the shot agonizingly wide. And to rub salt to their wounds, a Jordan Pickford blunder led Bernardo Silva to find the Everton net few minutes from time, as Pep’s side would be the happier side at the end of 90 minutes. Jordan Pickford wanted to clear the ball as far, but it barely reached an Everton player, as the Portuguese attacker was swift enough to get past his marker, firing a superb shot diagonally past Pickford, as City put the final nail in their coffin, with a chef’s kiss from the Portuguese sealing the deal.

With this victory, City moved up to fourth place, and are currently lagging behind leaders Liverpool by five points.
