Dolly Parton has gushed over Beyoncé's cover of her hit 1973 song, Jolene.

The Formation hitmaker recorded a version of the track, with significant changes to the lyrics, for her 2024 album, Cowboy Carter.

During a recent interview for People, Dolly recalled how she was excited to hear how Beyoncé altered the tone of the song.

"I was just honoured that she, of course, did a completely different take on Jolene than my version of it," she told the outlet. "Hers was more like, 'Well, you're not getting him, you're not taking him, you're going to go through me to get him.' Mine was more like, 'Please don't take him!' So, I loved her interpretation. As a writer, you like to hear how different people interpret your songs, and how they put their own spin and do their own take on it."

In the original song, Dolly makes a plea, "I'm beggin' of you, please don't take my man," while in Beyoncé's version, she sings: "I'm warning you, don't come for my man."

Elsewhere in the conversation, the country music icon called Cowboy Carter a "really good album" and wished Beyoncé all the best for her current stadium tour.

"I'm a huge fan of hers - I mean, who's not? Everybody loves her," the 79-year-old added. "I think she's a magnificent artist, beautiful and (admire) the dancing in addition to the singing."

Beyoncé's next show will be in London on 5 June.
