Cher and Mary J Blige are among the artists chosen to enter the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Eight performers have been recognised as the 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees were announced.
The news was revealed during the latest episode of American Idol.
Host Ryan Seacrest and judge Lionel Richie — himself a 2022 inductee into the Hall of Fame — were given the honour of announcing the lineup.
The diverse list of eight performers includes pop superstar Cher, ’70s-rooted rockers Peter Frampton, Foreigner and Ozzy Osbourne, and '90s icons the Dave Matthews Band, Mary J. Blige and A Tribe Called Quest.
In December 2023, in an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Cher revealed: “You know what, I wouldn’t be in it now if they gave me a million dollars … I’m never going to change my mind. They can just go you-know-what themselves.”
To be eligible, an individual artist or band must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination.
The honorees will officially be inducted into the Hall of Fame on Saturday 19 October.
The eight performers were selected by a ballot sent out to the Hall’s voters, after the 15 nominees were announced on 10 February.
That leaves seven nominees from this year who will have to wait for another crack at getting in.
Those artists are Mariah Carey, Jane’s Addiction, Sade, Sinead O’Connor, Oasis, Lenny Kravitz and the duo Eric B. and Rakim.
