Bryan Adams has recalled how he “tried to help” the late singer Amy Winehouse.
In a new interview with The Sunday Times, the Run to You singer discussed his friendship with Amy, who died from alcohol poisoning aged 27 in 2011.
Rumours circulated that Bryan had flown Amy out to his villa in Mustique in 2007, in a bid to help her get sober, and he has now addressed the trip.
“I invited her to spend the holidays with my family,” Bryan said.
"Sure, I tried to help her but, you know, it’s got to come from within.”
During her stay Bryan revealed he encouraged the Back to Black singer to eat vegan food and served her healthy carrot and beetroot juice – which she wasn’t impressed with.
The 64-year-old Canadian musician, who became friends with Amy after he photographed her, was left saddened by her untimely passing.
"I really don’t know what happened with Amy and it is so sad because she was so, so talented and I so admired her individuality massively,” he said.
During the interview, Bryan also discussed his friendship with another famous face – the late Princess Diana.
The pair became good friends after Diana invited Bryan to Kensington Palace to say thanks for sending her a copy of his song Diana – believed to have been inspired by her marriage to Prince Charles.
Bryan has shared his admiration for the princess and the bond they shared.
“We had a lot of really, really good conversations, I have to tell you,” he said.
“In fact it’s strange and surreal to think about. I really, really liked Diana, she was an amazing woman and a super-great inspiration.”
“Meeting her was truly one of the greatest things that ever happened to me,” he added.
