Roberto De Zerbi’s Brighton and Hove Albion have stamped their authority over Ange Postecoglou’s side Tottenham Hotspurs in a game which has experienced a rollercoaster of emotions, starting from happiness to bewilderment. The Seagulls went up 3-0 within the hour-mark before Veliz and Davies decided to go all guns blazing for Spurs, but it was all over for Ange’s side who slumped to their fifth defeat of the season.

Brighton overcomes Spurs challenge
Brighton and Hove Albion are slowly earning the name of giant killers since last season. They have had a brilliant previous season which saw them earn a European spot, as the Seagulls have qualified for the next round in Europa League from a group which consisted European veterans Ajax and Marseille, and are well placed to earn the same next season, as they are three points behind the European qualification in the Premier League. They have been practically undefeated at their home ground and have banished almost every team which has come to their own den, and last night was not an exception either when they mauled an injury-ridden Tottenham Hotspurs side, smashing four goals past them in an intense encounter. In response, it was Son and Kulusevski who threatened the Brighton rearguard aiming to upset the hosts, but it was the Seagulls who made the first inroad, after forcing Vicario into a tough save from former Liverpool star Danny Welbeck. They broke the deadlock when youngster Jack Hinshelwood finished a superb goal, after growing in the game, thus giving the lead to the hosts.

The game was titled towards the host when it was spotted that Kulusevski brought down Welbeck within the box, thus referee awarding the home side a penalty after an instigating VAR review. It was calmly slotted by Joao Pedro who stepped up to compose himself over the kick, as the hosts went 2-0 up ahead of the 30-minute mark. With a half-time score of 2-0, the game was well poised for a comfortable Brighton victory but Spurs could have been confident of their second-half comebacks, which has been the talk of the town this season.

A strong second half from Spurs
A diligent move from Ange made some strong reinforcements along the Spurs attack, when Lo Celso was introduced on the field. But, a rare comeback from the Spurs was dashed when Pervis Estupinan marked his return to the field with a humongous shot with full force, helping the hosts earn a comfortable three-goal lead which potentially killed the game.

Matters got out of hand for Ange’s men when it was observed that Lo Celso has brought down another Brighton player within the box, which was coolly dispatched by Joao Pedro, thus steering the home side in to a dreamland of four-goal victory.

Tottenham decided to go all guns blazing in the final few minutes when youngster Veliz scored his first Premier League goal for the Spurs to cut the lead to three, which was later reduced to two by Ben Davies’ header at the fag end of the game, which was a mere conclusion to a game that was a rollercoaster end to this year’s fixtures for both sides.
