A nail-biting rivalry on the cards
With a nail-biting encounter on the cards for both sides, especially after a matchday when both of the sides lost against their respective opponents (Argentina lost to Uruguay and Brazil lost to Colombia), three points were considered more important for both sides. Keeping this in mind, tacticians from both sides decided to name their strongest eleven.
Lionel Scaloni decided to go with a 4-4-2 formation, focusing mainly on a defensive approach and then going for the counterattacks, with his defensive wall comprising seasoned stars in the form of Acuna, Otamendi, Romero and Molina. The midfield comprised a three-way approach from the Premier League sides, with Mac Allister, Enzo, Lo Celso and Rodrigo De Paul, who were given the responsibilities of assisting the ball to Lionel Messi and Julian Alvarez.
As for Brazil, they went with 4-2-3-1 approach, Gabriel Jesus being the only striker, to be assisted by three of their enterprising superstars in the form of Martinelli, Rodrygo and Raphinha. Their defensive line comprised of Carlos, Gabriel, seasoned Marquinhos and Emerson, with Bruno and Andre given the responsibility to go forward with the ball.

An intense first half
As promised to be thrilling, the first half of the game was mostly within the grasp of the referee, as he had to stop the players more than 20 times, as two sides were fouling rashly against each other. On the third minute, match officials had to square up the players, with their prompt intervention in way of another trifle.
As soon as the clock struck fifth minute, the first card came out in Brazil’s favor, with Gabriel Jesus going into the referee books, owing to a swat at De Paul’s face, who tried to pull him down. Few minutes later, it was Raphinha who was carded, with De Paul at it again. With the half-time score poised at 0-0, both tacticians need to remind their players at their dressing room that they should not allow their emotions run high in games like this, where three points and a reputation are at stake.

Nicolas Otamendi- the clutch general
With a goalless first half brewing for an intense finish in the next 45 minutes, Brazil and Argentina came out to play the next half, much composed and dedicated to snatch three points. For the Brazilian perspective, Marquinhos was replaced by Nino and Argentina fielded the same side.
With many attacks and strikes to go for both sides, Nicolas Otamendi, Albiceleste’s old guard, found the back of the net, which proved to be the difference between two sides. Although it was against the run of play, but Scaloni’s side would not mind the lead.
Lo Celso was instrumental with the ball, as his pitch-perfect inswinging curler fell on Otamendi, as the Benfica player buried the header well past Alisson. The Benfica star rose among the crowded box to find the net, as Argentina took the lead with less than half-hour to play.
