Axl Rose has been accused of violently sexually assaulting a woman in 1989.
According to a lawsuit filed in New York Supreme Court on Wednesday, former model Sheila Kennedy has accused the Guns N' Roses frontman of sexually assaulting her.
According to the lawsuit, obtained by Rolling Stone, Kennedy has claimed that she met Rose in a New York nightclub in February 1989. The Penthouse model alleged that on the same night, Rose violently sexually assaulted her in his hotel room.
Kennedy has claimed that a friend had invited her to the nightclub to try to meet the band. She then stated that after meeting Rose, he invited her to a party at his hotel.
Whilst at the party, according to the suit, Rose allegedly waited for her outside the bathroom door, where he allegedly "pushed Kennedy against the wall and kissed her."
The suit stated, "Kennedy found Rose attractive and did not mind this encounter. She was open to sleeping with him if things progressed."
However, Kennedy has stated that she did not consent to the alleged sexual encounter with the singer that occurred later that night.
Kennedy claimed that her encounter with Rose "quickly became not just uncomfortable by disturbing," adding that he encouraged her to engage in group sex.
After she expressed disinterest, Kennedy alleged that the musician became "furious" and knocked her to the ground. "While Kennedy was still on the ground, Rose grabbed her by the hair and dragged her across the suite back to his bedroom," the suit claimed. "This was very painful for Kennedy and caused her knees to bleed from scraping on the rug."
Kennedy claimed that Rose then tied her hands behind her back, causing her to feel "trapped", as he raped her. "He treated her like property used solely for his sexual pleasure," the suit continued. "He did not use a condom. Kennedy did not consent and felt overpowered. She felt she had no escape or exit and was compelled to acquiesce. She believed Rose would physically attack her, or worse, if she said no or attempted to push him away. She understood that the safest thing to do was to lie in bed and wait for Rose to finish assaulting her."
Rose has denied the allegations through his attorney, Alan Gutman.
Gutman stated, "Simply put, this incident never happened. Notably, these fictional claims were filed the day before the New York State filing deadline expires."
He added, "Mr. Rose is confident this case will be resolved in his favor."
Kennedy has claimed that since the alleged assault, she has suffered from PTSD-like symptoms, anxiety and depression.
