Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Mohammad Abdul Momen addressed recent media reports concerning a letter from the legal team of Tulip Siddiq, the former UK Anti-Corruption Minister who recently resigned amid controversies over her links to her aunt, Sheikh Hasina, and the origins of a number of properties in London used by her.

At a press briefing held today, the ACC chairman said that while legal representation is standard practice for any accused individual, corruption charges are not compoundable and must be resolved through legal proceedings.

"Exchanging letters cannot take the place of a proper court process," he said.

Tulip Siddiq recently told Sky News that she was unaware of any charges against her and claimed that no one from the ACC had contacted her. Despite significant political support in the UK, including from Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Tulip Siddiq was compelled to resign following growing allegations.

Addressing this, Abdul Momen clarified that the case against Tulip is supported by extensive documentary evidence.

"A full charge sheet has been prepared after a detailed review of documents. The matter now rests with the court. If she fails to appear after a warrant is issued, she will be treated as a criminal absconder," he said.

He further said that implementation of all court directives would involve the home ministry and foreign ministry as necessary.

Commenting on Tulip's statement to Sky News, ACC chairman reaffirmed that legal procedures would be applied uniformly, regardless of a person's identity or position.

"This is not just about Tulip Siddiq. The same legal standards will apply to other absconding accused, including Sheikh Hasina, Sheikh Rehana, Sajeeb Wazed, Saima Wazed, Radwan Mujib Siddiq, and Azmina Siddiq," he said.

The ACC concluded by reiterating its firm commitment to transparency, due process, and impartiality in all ongoing investigations.
