‘This shouldn’t be forgotten’- Sunil Gavasakar warns India ahead of 2023 World Cup

Former batting legend Sunil Gavaskar has issued a warning to the Indian cricket team following their loss to Australia in the third and final One Day International (ODI) match in Chennai. Despite chasing a challenging target of 270 runs on a difficult pitch, India were bowled out for 248 in 49.1 overs, allowing Australia to make a comeback in the series after losing the first ODI by five wickets.

Gavaskar identified the pressure created by Australia as a key factor in India’s loss. The Indian batsmen struggled to find boundaries and were unable to rotate the strike, leading them to attempt unfamiliar shots. Gavaskar emphasized the importance of learning from this defeat, particularly with the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) and the possibility of facing Australia again in the World Cup.

It is worth noting that Australia was the last international team to defeat India in a bilateral ODI series, with a score-line of 3-2 in 2019. Since that series defeat four years ago, India has won seven consecutive bilateral ODI series at home.
